Bloc Fest Auckland
Bloc Fest is a full-day festival experience bringing together competitors, community, and culture under one roof.
Bloc Fest features a new style of bouldering comp, with a format that’s built for the whole climbing community.
Everyone climbs together in qualifiers, then a hidden cut-off separates the Opens field into finals rounds, so no matter what grade you climb, you could get to experience competing in a finals round, against other climbers of your same level!
Here’s how it works.
Registration
Choose your qualification session when you buy a ticket.
Three two-hour slots run at 8:30am, 10:45am and 1:00pm.
Please have your tickets ready to scan when you arrive on the day.
Register for the comp on the Beta Bud app. You can register when you arrive on the day, or pre-register on Beta Bud by logging in, choosing Boulder Co. Auckland as your gym, then register for Bloc Fest 2026 under Comps.
All competitors log their climbs during qualifiers on Beta Bud.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a device available to use for the comp – let one of our staff know and we’ll organise an alternative solution.
Qualification Rounds
Everyone climbs together in qualifiers.
Climbers compete across three 2-hour qualification sessions (max 70 per session).
Each session includes 30 boulder problems, ranging from V0–V11.
Each competitor logs their best results per climb on the Beat Bud app, which automatically assigns the following scores:
| Attempt | Points |
| Flash (1st attempt) | 10 points |
| 2nd attempt | 7 points |
| 3rd attempt | 4 points |
| 4th attempt or more | 1 point |
Finals Rounds
Finals rounds are divided into four tiers; three score-based Open tiers, plus Youth A (U17). With cash prizes for Open categories!
For Open A, B & C finals categories, a hidden cut-off separates the field into three finals rounds based on scores, with six female and six male competitors per category.
The top six male and top six female Youth A competitors from qualifiers compete in the Youth A final.
Finals grades will be:
Open C: V3-V4
Open B: V4-V5
Open A: V6+
Climbers in Youth B (Under 14) category compete in qualification rounds only, with prize-giving alongside Finals categories in the evening.
Announcements
Finalists will be announced at the conclusion of Qualification Round 3, just after 3:00pm.
Announcements will be made in the gym, and on our Instagram profile. Keep sharp – there’s every chance your name could be on the list!
