The Joker (V9)

Spittle Hill, Kura Tāwhiti

The Joker is a legendary problem and the first V9 established in the basin.

Put up by Kaz Pucia in 1998, it follows an unmistakable line up a gently overhanging wall. The problem begins with two off-angled pockets before launching into a powerful swing to a large pocket, setting up for the trademark big lat move out right.

Combining precision, power, and tension, The Joker captures the essence of Castle Hill: technical, beautiful, and unforgiving.

First ascent: Kaz Pucia, 1998.
